Code of Conduct
Purpose
The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to ensure a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all participants, volunteers, and spectators at Lakeview Youth Association (LYA) events. This policy outlines the expectations for behavior, as well as the consequences for violations.
- Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drug Use
- No use of tobacco at any LYA event.
- No use of alcohol or drugs before or during any LYA event.
- Respectful Conduct
- No profanity or offensive language is permitted around youth or towards participants and volunteers.
- Harassment of officials, coaches, players, or other attendees will not be tolerated, including in person, electronically, and on social media.
- Good sportsmanship will be demonstrated at all times, including on social media platforms related to LYA.
- Field Access and Interaction
- Parents are not allowed on the field, unless their child is injured.
- No pets are allowed at practice or game facilities.
- Participation Requirements
- Only adults who have passed an LYA-facilitated background check are permitted to work with children during LYA events.
- Behavioral Expectations
- At no time will abusive verbal or physical confrontations be tolerated with any parent, coach, player, or official during or following an event.
- Coaches and volunteers will not allow themselves to be drawn into confrontations in the presence of players.
- Parents and players will not engage in arguments or overt, offensive discussions regarding game calls or rules during events.
- Equipment and Property
- Misuse or damage of any equipment, including personal use not sanctioned by LYA, is prohibited.
- Social Media and Communication
- LYA members, including player members and their families, shall not post content on social media that is harassing, offensive, disrespectful, promotes violence, or otherwise damages LYA’s or the supporting school districts' reputation.
- This does not infringe upon freedom of speech or lawful activities, but LYA reserves the right to take action when such activities negatively impact the organization, its youth, or its stakeholders.
Consequences for Violations
Sport Directors have the authority to identify and respond to violations of the Code of Conduct without the immediate approval of the LYA Board of Directors.
- Physical Abuse Violations:
- Immediate and potentially permanent dismissal from all LYA events and programs.
- Involves law enforcement if refusal to leave.
- 1st Violation:
- Suspension determined by the Director of the corresponding sport (no reimbursement).
- Suspension includes all activities until a full review of the infraction is complete.
- 2nd Violation:
- Immediate dismissal from all LYA programs for up to 12 months (no reimbursement).
- Cumulative infractions over time will be reviewed regardless of prior incidents.
- General Violations:
- Any violation may result in immediate removal from the area and/or the removal of the player member from the activity.
- Failure to leave may result in law enforcement intervention.
- Appeals:
- Infractions must be submitted by the Director to the LYA Board within two days of the incident.
- Appeals can be submitted to [email protected] and will be reviewed within 30 days by the Board.
- Guests and Fans:
- Any fan or guest, regardless of having signed the Code of Conduct, will be subject to the outlined consequences.
Additional Notes
This Code of Conduct may be supplemented by additional guidelines or requirements from specific sporting leagues or facility hosts, ensuring alignment with their standards. Conduct not fitting into the above categories will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
